INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SAN PEDRO:
San Pedro is located on Ambergris Caye which is the largest of some 200 cayes (islands) that dot the Coastline of Belize and is 25 miles long and about 1 mile wide. Located about 10 miles to the east of the mainland, the Caye is protected on the east by a 190 mile long barrier reef, the second largest in the world.
San Pedro Town, a former fishing village is the only town on Ambergris Caye and is comprised of 3 main streets lined with predominately wooden structures and low profile buildings containing restaurants, fruit vendors and quaint shops offering local and often handmade wares. Streets are sand or cobblestone, main mode of transportation is by foot or golf carts and the appropriate dress is shorts, tanks, swim suits or anything cool, comfortable and casual!
The accomodations on Ambergris Caye are plentiful and offer a range of hotels, condos, private homes and resorts that will fit every need and budget. Whether you're wanting a thatched-roof palapa style suite, a quaint room overlooking Front Street or a luxurious beachfront room or condo - you'll find it! Some offer pools, restaurants and dive shops. All offer unparalleled value and ambiance.
In San Pedro you'll find fabulous restaurants specializing in the local delicacies including fresh fish, shrimp and lobster. There are also many beach bars, some with live entertainment.
